I have been using a Ryobi heat gun for the last 20 years. It would still be working except, shame on me, I dropped it on a concrete floor and broke the housing. I guess it's a testament to that product that it lasted that long, but I didn't know how much better things could be until I decided to replace it with this DeWalt. This tool feels awesome - very solid, heavy duty, and the controls are very positive and stay where they're set. It has a nice long cord, much longer than my previous tool. But the real difference was when I turned it on and it became crazy hot in seconds. My old one would take 30 seconds or more to get up to full temp. The material the housing on this DeWalt is constructed of feels much more shock resistant and forgiving of rough treatment. I doubt it will shatter if dropped like its predecessor. The only thing I can't figure out is the silly fold-out tripod legs to stand it on the bench. The housing itself supports the tool almost vertically, another 1/8 of an inch and there would be no need for the useless little legs. But all in all, this is a five star purchase.
This heat gun is fantastic. Has the ability to adjust th temperature from 200 to i believe 1200 degrees F and gets scorching hot in a timely fashion. This gun is super high quality and has a very solid build, almost feels like a luxury item. ANY heat gun manufacturer will have defective units simply due to the intense nature of these products but the probability of you receiving one is extremely rare. I have used many heat guns and this one is the best. The cable is super thick & long but very bendable and durable so it won't tangle or get rips or tears. Many times you won't even need an extension cord for this gun. I also has a stand and different head attachments for concentrated heat. If you were like me and every time you find a heat gun you like, then you change your mind because of the negative reviews, then look no further. BUY THIS HEAT GUN! you will love it. Its by far the nicest one and best value out of any I have seen and has a great warranty. In my opinion this is a better buy than any of the other heat guns I have seen/used regardless of price.
This heat gun does the job. I needed to heat up a metal tube on a Benelli to 280 degrees to break the loctite bond. This heat gun did that easily and the temperature dial allowed me to obtain the temperature I needed. I have read where it took others 30-minutes to several hours to perform the same task. This heat gun did the job in 15-minutes. It also comes with some nice attachments to direct airflow. It feels solid and well built in the hand.
I bought this to work with Worbla for cosplay so I only use it every few months, but have owned it for a couple years and it's still working.First of all it's definitely sturdy. It just feels nice in your hand. Not cheap at all. It is quite heavy, which can be a bit of a pain when going over and over one spot, but that's a minor complaint. It's also quite loud, but not so much so that I feel the need to wear earplugs. I like that I can set it down on the flat back end with it still running rather than trying to turn it off and set it somewhere. Makes for easy transition between one piece to the next. I like the variable temperature though I get the sense that it doesn't get as hot as it claims; I have it turned pretty far up for worbla and it won't burn my fingers off if my fingers get near it, so. I'm not too certain about that. The cord is fairly long and thick, though I wouldn't expect to move around a large room or large object with it. This seems best suited to small home projects like mine rather than hard-daily-use construction or professional work.
After using a couple of times, I believe that this heat gun is just what I needed. Instant heat and easy to handle.
This is an excellent heat gun. I own two of them, one for work and one at home. I use the home one mostly for removing labels. At work, I use it for removing shelf paper and pre-heating vinyl composition tile prior to setting and also for taking the curve out of vinyl cove base and bending it around outside corners. I leaving it running continuously for more than an hour at a time, no problems. The heat is adjustable through a full range by turning the black screw dial on the back end... clockwise increases heat, counterclockwise turns it down. It comes with some attachments for different uses giving narrower or broader heat distribution. I had a problem with the first one I bought not heating up, so I took it to a Dewalt repair place and they sent me a new one, no questions asked. In retrospect, I think it may not have been anything wrong with the gun, but rather my lack of figuring out how the black screw dial worked. Yeah, I know -- DUH!
Forget the non adjustable temperature heat guns, they are a thing of the past. This unit seems well built. It has a long cord. It has a great heat adjustment knob on the end, but the decal for hotter or colder is convoluted. It comes with other nozzles if you need them, but no case, which I didn't need anyway. I would rather have a lighter gun without the handle guard. The three way switch works well. I don't think you can beat this heat gun for the price unless you need an LCD temperature readout to track heat temperature stats for various jobs, but then you pay a lot more for that feature. This is a way, way better heat gun than the Porter Cable which isn't built as well as my Revlon hair dryer.UPDATEThis is a must have for shrink wrapping. Being able to adjust the temperture and the air flow results in better shrinking wrapping and sealing. Don't get a set temperture heat gun for shrinking!
I'm in the process of stripping a neglected patio enclosure. I burned through 15 belts on my belt sander (which I later found out might have a bad bearing) and my neighbor suggested using a heat gun. I bought this from Warehouse Deals here, in Used-Very Good condition, and it arrived just as a new product. In box, still with the cord wrapped, and all accessories. 5 stars for Warehouse deals (again). But this review is about the Heat Gun and not Warehouse deals.First heat control. I saw the more expensive model with LCD readout to be a complete geek novelty. I don't really care too much what temperature the heat is that is coming out, all that matters is the temperature required to effectively get the job done. So the mere fact that this gun has only a rotary dial really isn't a big deal. The gun came with a cone and wide attachment. I've only used the wide attachment as I'm removing caulk and old paint. I've been using the fan on high with the heat all the way turned up. Removing exterior paint from wood does work. However, it takes a solid 10-15 seconds of heating to get the paint to bubble. You only have a working area of maybe 4"x4" before you have to move on, that's all the coverage you're going to get with this gun. That's my only real complaint is your pretty limited in your working area.It does work very well for removing the piled on layers of caulking. The caulk doesn't bubble up like paint, it just gets really soft and becomes very pliable. It's very important to remove all the old caulk if you want a nice clean bead to be retained.
